Rules of the Ladder:
The ladder is intended to give players the opportunity to play singles with a variety of players in a competitive and fun format. There is a Ladies and Mens ladder.
- The Tennis Ladder is open to challenges until Wednesday, September 30th, 2015.
- To encourage active participation in this program we will award $30 to the most active players on both the Men's and Ladies Ladder. Also the player at the top of each ladder on September 30th will win $30. That's a total potential prize of $60!!!!
- The ladder is open to players of all levels. The starting order is the same as it was at the end of the previous season, with the removal of a few inactive players.
- If you are not currently on the ladder but would like to participate, please send an email to canmore.tennis.association@gmail.com. New participants will be added to the bottom of the ladder.
- The first step is to issue a "Permitted Challenge" (see below for definition). The challenger will suggest a time and location for the match. Please make challenges early in the week to improve the chances of finding a mutually agreeable playing time.
- You can challenge and play as many matches as you like. However, you will not be required to accept more than one challenge per week (Monday to Sunday). Declining to play more than one challenge per week will NOT result in a default.
- Any player under challenge cannot accept a second challenge until the first challenge is played.
- Please respond to challenges as soon as possible.
- A "Permitted Challenge" is made to a player who is no more than 3 positions above you on the ladder. For example, if you are 8th on the ladder, you may only challenge the 5th, 6th, or 7th placed players. Invalid challenges may be played but they will not result in a ladder change.
- Players must accept or decline a challenge within 3 days. If a player fails to respond to a challenge or declines a challenge, they will lose by default. A default is not a bad thing – it is a way to keep the ladder dynamic.
- The standard match format is a pro set to 9 games (regular scoring with a tie breaker to 7 points at 8 games-all). If you want to play a regular 2 of 3 sets you may do so with mutual consent.
- You are encouraged to reserve a court for Ladder matches. If you have reserved a court for your match you will be issued a court credit for the booking (ie. it is essentially free to reserve a court for Ladder matches). You can usually play a pro set in under an hour. We recommend booking 2 hours for a 2/3 set match. If you chose not to book a court please keep in mind the "drop-in" rule of limiting play to 45 minutes when others are waiting to get on the court.
- The winner reports the scores as soon as possible by emailing canmore.tennis.association@gmail.com Please indicate the player names and previous ranking, who issued the challenge, when the match was played, and the score of the match. Please also tell us if a court was booked for the match and who booked it. Credit(s) will be added to the booker's Acebook account.
- Moving up the ladder: When a higher positioned player loses, the winner moves up to the higher spot and the loser moves down just one spot. Everyone in between the players will also move down one spot. For example, if player #3 challenges player #1 and wins, then player #3 will take the #1 position, player #1 will move down to the #2 position and player #2 will be move down to the #3 position. If you challenge and lose, no one moves.
- The ladder will be updated weekly at a minimum.
- Have FUN!!!
